Worth the Price

Worth the Price

“Responsibility is the price of freedom.” – Elbert Hubbard

worth-the-priceThe state of being accountable or answerable is the price of exemption from the power or control of another.

The beauty of the cross is that we have been freed from the power of sin.  But in that freedom we must be accountable to how we manage that freedom.  It is easy to say, I’ve been freed from sin, but the actions we display don’t show that freedom.  In the movie the Shawshank Redemption, one of the inmates is released and he did not know how to manage the responsibility that accompanied his new-found freedom.  It became so overwhelming that he ended up killing himself.  If we don’t accurately manage the liberty we have been given in Christ, we can become just like the character in the movie, dead to the freedom we’ve been given and back in sin.

Paul tells us not to take the freedom we have been given lightly.  But we must do something with the responsibility we have been given.  It is not ours to keep to ourselves, but rather an opportunity to help promote the love of God, the freedom that comes with living life with and in Christ.  There are so many people with so many questions and it is our responsibility to give them the answer.

We have the freedom to share the good news of Christ, while many people in other countries don’t and yet they lay their lives down every day.

What are you willing to pay for your freedom?
