Staying Positive on Purpose

Staying Positive on Purpose

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:”
Ephesians 4:26

There will be many things that happen in the course of life. Some of them will be great and others probably not as great. The key to successfully navigate those things is to stay positive. Being positive about a negative situation is a choice. We can choose to complain, get frustrated, upset and even angry. But isn’t that what everyone does? Everyone has a right to get upset, but it’s not whether or not to be upset, angry, frustrated or complain, it’s choosing whether to stay that way. Paul in the book of Ephesians tells us to “Be angry and sin not…”

Within that chapter, it’s interesting that Paul talks about the new man and that we are new men in Christ as well as having a renewed mind. Notice that the former you, the you that hasn’t been made new by Christ gets angry, frustrated, upset and may be constantly complaining about something. But since we are in Christ, we have to decide to not give place to the devil, put off corrupt communication, and let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you. But you don’t know what so-and-so did. You don’t understand how I’ve been treated. You don’t…. You are correct… I don’t. But God does and this is Him letting us know that it doesn’t matter what someone else has done to us, said about us, staying this way is not an option.

How many of us can count the number of people who complain constantly? We would run out of fingers. Are they always upset or angry? Do you feed into the complaining by joining them? Do you help them justify their anger? Or do you do the opposite and find a way to turn it into something positive? It says to be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you. So, let’s be like God and for the sake of Christ, who has forgiven us, let’s forgive others. Let’s make a decision to not complain, stay frustrated, angry or upset and encourage others to do the same. How much more will it confuse the people who have ticked you off, if you approach them with love, grace, and goodness?

Staying positive on purpose is your choice.
